Welcome back! I wanted to give you a little glimpse into our everyday homeschooling life—specifically, our learning space and the materials we reach for most often.
We don't have a huge dedicated "schoolroom," and that's perfectly okay! Our learning tends to weave throughout our home. We've built a display and storage area on one of our dining room walls, complete with a 20-foot desk made from file cabinets and wood beams. This gives us plenty of space to spread out, and our blank wall is completely interchangeable, so it can be transformed with a new theme depending on what we are studying! Cozy corners become reading nooks, and even the backyard is an extension of our classroom. The key for us is creating a flexible and inviting environment where curiosity can thrive.
However, there are a few essential tools that we use consistently and absolutely love. Many of these are what I call our "Reusable Learning Essentials," and you can find them conveniently listed in my Amazon store [Link Coming Soon].
These include:
Laminated Pouches & Dry Erase Markers: These are game-changers for us! We use them with almost every worksheet. The kids love being able to write, wipe, and practice again and again. It saves paper and keeps things interactive.
Our Laminator: This little machine is a workhorse! We laminate everything from educational games and flashcards to custom playdough mats. It makes our learning materials durable and reusable.
Core Play Items: We also get so much use out of our blocks, Magna-Tiles, and LEGO Duplos. These aren't just toys—they're foundational tools for hands-on learning, from building and engineering to imaginative play.
Beyond these, we also prioritize conscious material choices. You'll often find us using:
Thrift Store Treasures & Dollar Store Finds: These are fantastic for affordable stickers, small manipulatives, and engaging little toys that bring lessons to life.
Recycled Materials: We're always looking for ways to repurpose items like cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, and newspaper into learning tools and craft projects.
Paper Products: We lean towards paper over plastic whenever possible, being mindful of our planet.
Of course, our local library is a treasure trove! We regularly borrow books and other resources to supplement our learning.
Having these core materials on hand makes it easy to jump into different activities and create a dynamic learning experience. I'm so grateful to have you on this journey with us!
